Join filmmakers and the GIFF community to celebrate the kick-off of the Glendale International Film Festival’s 10th edition! Enjoy an evening of networking among industry peers at the beautiful, scenic MYA Rooftop atop The Glenmark, Glendale’s first and only lifestyle boutique hotel.

Through historical satire, CVGV is a blunt indictment of America’s English peerage roots which created the culture of white privilege, entitlement, and racism that continues to perpetuate today.

The program will begin at 7:30 pm, with three-time Emmy Award-winning improv actor/host and feature film screenwriter/producer returning as the evening’s emcee.

The Last Repair Shop

Screening and Q&A of The Last Repair Shop, 2024 Documentary Short Film Oscar winner, presented in partnership with Glendale Arts, Glendale International Film Festival, Glendale Community College, and Glendale Unified School District, with generous participation from The Last Repair Shop.

The Glendale International Film Festival culminates on Tuesday, October 1 with a series of screenings of the 2024 Documentary Short Film Oscar winner, The Last Repair Shop. The 40-minute film spotlights four of the shop’s 12 technicians, each specializing in a different type of instrument: brass, woodwinds, strings, and pianos. Through heartfelt interviews, these craftsmen share their personal stories, revealing how their work has profoundly impacted their lives as well as the lives of the students whose instruments they restore.

Jennifer Miller Hammer, Host of the KUSC Morning Show, will moderate a Q&A with the film’s director and composer, Kris Bowers, immediately following the screening. Bowers, along with key members of the cast, string instrument expert Dana Atkinson, and woodwind keeper Duane Michaels, will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the process of creating a documentary that explores humanity, resilience, tradition, and the power of community. Attendees will also gain a deeper understanding of the documentary-making process, learning how The Last Repair Shop was crafted into a compelling story that resonates with viewers on both an emotional and intellectual level.
